A$AP Rocky grew up in the rough neighborhood of Harlem. He was raised by his mother after his father left, and his older brother was a major influence on his early exposure to hip-hop. Rocky's music career began when he was a teenager, and he started rapping at the age of 9. He first gained attention with his mixtape Live. Love. A$AP in 2011, which was released when he was just 23. The mixtape helped him build a buzz in the underground hip-hop scene, with tracks like "Peso" and "Purple Swag" showcasing his hazy, atmospheric production and laid-back flow.
